The Demon Within

by Beth Woodward

All Dale Highland wants is a normal life. Too bad she can’t stop killing people.

It’s been ten years since the first time Dale blacked out and killed someone. Since then, she’s been on the run, searching for the cause of her blackouts—and a way to control them.

When an enigmatic, seductive assassin named John crashes into her life, Dale learns that she’s half demon. Dale and John embark on a quest to find the only person who can answer Dale’s questions and help cure her blackouts: her long-missing mother, a legend in the demon world.

But Dale’s mother is a key figure in the ancient war between angels and demons. This world is darker, and more dangerous, than Dale realizes. To find the answers she seeks, Dale will have to risk not only her life…but her soul.

Beth Woodward has always had a love for the dark, the mysterious, and all things macabre. She blames her mother for this one: while other kids were watching cartoons, Beth and her mother were watching Unsolved Mysteries together every week. She was doomed from the beginning. At twelve, she discovered the wonders of science fiction and fantasy when she read A Wrinkle in Time, which remains the most influential book of her life. Growing up, she was Meg Murray with a dash of Oscar the Grouch. She’s been writing fiction since she was six years old; as a cantankerous kid whose family moved often, the fictional characters she created became her friends. As an adult, she’s slightly more well adjusted, but she still withdraws into her head more often than is probably healthy.

When she’s not writing, Beth enjoys traveling, going to sci-fi/fantasy conventions, watching movies, and reading voraciously. (You’ll rarely catch her without her trusty Kindle.) She is a rabid Doctor Who fan and spends a lot of time with the two cats whose household she shares. She currently lives in the Washington, D.C. area.
